Ikebana (ē-kĕ-bah-nah)
Ikebana International Ann Arbor Chapter #183, in our 51st year,
meets the third Thursday of each month September - May at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor, MI
February 19 Zoom Meeting - Budding Fortunes
Professor Nancy Stalker gives us a fascinating glimpse into the world of the biggest ikebana schools in Japan, during the time of Ikebana International's early establishment.
Prof. Stalker talks us through the competitive strategies of three principal ikebana schools – Ikenobo, Ohara, and Sogetsu – during the 1950’s through 1970’s.
The strategies that built the power of these schools were the same strategies that supported rapid corporate growth in Japan during those times, such as strong brand identity, diversification, and rationalization, leading these schools’ businesses to thrive and continue to operate today.
