Ikebana (ē-kĕ-bah-nah)
Ikebana International Ann Arbor Chapter #183, in our 51st year,
meets the third Thursday of each month September - May at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor, MI
Pat Langs, Ikenobo School
This month’s lesson is on the use of grasses. This workshop will be using bear grass and other flower materials to create an Ikenobo Jiyuka or freestyle arrangement form.
During the summer months, most everyone will have tall, long grass. Today we will demonstrate techniques for using grasses in either a naturalistic way or a stylistic manner. In addition to the bear grass, we will be using 3-5 larger mum type blossoms (with leaves as surface) and an accent floral material such as wax flower, Limonium or baby’s breath.
The Ikenobo Jiyuka Form:
The grass will provide the line material, the larger flowers will provide the mass, leaves are considered surface material, and the accent flower will be the pointe/dots to accent the arrangement.
When: Thursday, May 21, 2026
Time: 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm - Workshop starts at 1:00 pm
Registration: To request registration, please send an email to a2ikebana@gmail.com
