October 16 Workshop: Sogetsu - Horizontal Style Moribana
Leslie Rosinski, from the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, will teach a workshop on Variation #6 - Horizontal Style Moribana Sogetsu lesson.
In this workshop, we will use a Moribana, or a low sided container, and one kenzan. This horizontal style is particularly suitable for an arrangement to be placed on the table at home, as the entire composition is finished low so that people at the table can see each other easily.

IKEBANA AT YOUMACON - October 31 through November 1
Ikebana has been invited to share this artform at the largest Comic Con in the Mid-West, called YOUMACON.
What do manga, anime, and ikebana all have in common?
When would you ever put those three words together in one sentence?
• Manga – a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels that has a distinctive style of impressionistic backgrounds and big-eyed characters.
• Anime – a style of Japanese animation characterized by distinctive art – big expressive eyes, vibrant characters, and epic storytelling.
• Ikebana – the Japanese art of flower arrangement, in which the arrangement brings Nature and humanity closer together.
All these definitions have the word Japanese in them, and all are a particular art form that have distinctive characteristics.
Come join the Ann Arbor and Detroit Ikebana chapters at YOUMACON in their collaborative approach to unite these three unlikely genres.

September Workshop: ICHIYO - Contrasting Group
Terre Voegeli, from the Ichiyo School of Ikebana, taught a workshop on how to create a Group Contrast Form. An interesting arrangement that combines three groups of material:
This form does not use single stems or flowers, but combines them into groups for impact, showing how three different materials with separate characteristics and shapes can harmonize beautifully in an arrangement.

April - Ikebana International 2025 Kyoto World Conference
In late April, members of the Ann Arbor and Detroit Chapters attended the I.I. 13th World Convention in Kyoto, Japan. We saw seven live, spectacular demonstrations by the headmasters from the leading schools of ikebana. There were also over 300 exhibition arrangements done by headmasters and leading arrangers from around the world. At the business meetings, the three International Resolutions that were presented and approved regionally at the NCARC in Philadelphia were further approved unanimously at the 13th World Convention.
